13 Month Old Screaming All The Time

So my son is 13 months. Anytime he doesn't get his way he screams bloody murder! How can I break him of this habit? He is just starting to talk so I know he gets mad because he can't tell me exactly what he wants, but it's becoming terribly embarrassing with his constant screaming. Any suggestions would be great.

I hear you .....What I have been doing is ignoring this kind of behavior and so far it seems to be working. I will have patience with him when he points to something I tell him what it is......light, phone, etc and if he acts like he wants it I say no firmly but if he starts screaming or jumping up and down I just say nooooo and walk out of the room and leave him there with his temper tantrum. It does'nt usually take one min before he is over it and on to something else. I have especially experienced problems with him wanting to run everywhere when he knows I am going to change him or need to put a coat on him. I have stopped chasing him. I put the diaper and clothes on the floor and call to him if he starts acting like that I just move on to something else and usually within 5 min he will come over and sit down by the diaper etc and let me change him without all the fanfare. I do feel though it is important to give them attn at every other chance you get when he is being good. I have also started teaching him to throw his dirty diaper away (as a way to help mommy) and he really seems to take a kind of pride that he is doing something good and I applaud that at every chance I get. I hope some of this helps. By the way does the tn in front of your username mean you live in tennessee?
