15 Month Old Not Talking Yet

My son only say's mama( and not specifically to me, just at random moments)! He loves baby talk, and sometimes when he hands you something it sounds like he is saying "here", but thats about it. I keep reading that he should be saying up to or more than 10 words by now! Is this true? Everything else seems to be right on track with him...could he just be a late talker? I don't read to him...should I do that more? I'm a single mother and he is my only child so most of the time it is just me and him. I play with him plenty and give him lots of love and attention, but I don't really talk that much. I try to remember to " conversate" with him but it doesn't always work out that way. Could that be why he isn't speaking more words yet....because it's just us and I dont read to him?

The more words he hears the more he will learn. Reading to him is a very good way to introduce language to him. They also say kids that are read to tend to be smarter. I can contest to that too, because my oldest son loved to read and he is a straight A student and my youngest son is more into bikes and playing, he is very smart but he is just not as interested in learning as my oldest is. Being a late talker doesn't always mean anything, so relax and maybe talk to his pediatrician.

My sister's son is almost 2 and doesn't talk yet. He can say some words, and he wil say mama if he really wants something, but otherwise he will just hold out his hand and babble or yell. The problem there though is that nobody makes him talk or anything, they will just give him what he wants! Anyway, I don't think it's abnormal for your LO, but the more words they hear, the more likely they are to try to imitate them!
