3 Month Old With A Molar

Flynn has been extra fussy lately and drooling like a madman. I was thinking he could be teething, but he is so young and I don't see any white spots on his gums. Well, tonight I began to feel around the backs of his gums, and I couls feel a sharp point towards the back of his gum. I got a small glimpse of it (hard with a squirming guy who's moving his tongue all around) and there is a definite white spot on his gum. Jost how my dd's first teeth looked just as they erupted. His gums are not wide enough for molars, and it looks more like a regular tooth. I don't know what to do. Should I call his dr., or just bring it up at his 4 mo. appt? It is definitely some kind of tooth, just the wrong kind in the wrong spot? So weird.

He's also had some looser stools lately... it's all making sense now. Poor boy!

He's also been munching on my arm and chin. Sorry, I just keep thinking of new things and going "oh yeah..."

My son was 3.5 mos old when he got his first tooth - on top, almost in the back. He went through all the normal teething signs - so I a__sumed it was his first tooth in the wrong spot. Turns out - it was what they called a third tooth and they pulled it. It had no roots and he could have choked on it if it had fallen out. Took them less than 10 secs to get it out - he was more mad that they held his mouth open, lol! I can tell you that since then we thought it was happening again just a few weeks later- just on the other side. It turns out he had a gum cyst that time. Went through all the symptoms of teething, too and it looked like a tooth. The doc told us it was normal and that it would go away on its own - which it did in less than 3 weeks. Still, no teeth for my boy at 6 months!!!

Thank you, that makes sense. I guess I should call his dr. Anyone else?

Well, they said it was "pretty abnormal", whatever that means. So he has his first dentist appt. tomorrow.

oh my let us know how that goes....

Hopefully it will just be a little cyst or nothing major to worry about! Hope all goes well.

I have heard of babies teeth breaking the surface and than going back down, my dr called it flooting teeth. I mention this because I was b___stfeeding my 1st and he bite my nipple and actually left a tooth mark and i checked his gums and could see and feel something comming through, he was about 4 months. Well it never came in until he was 9 1/2 months but i had a huge bruise with 1 tooth mark to remind me how luck I was he didnt get teeth till way later.

Occasionally kids get white spots on the gum which look like a tooth coming in, but they are actually blocked ducts (almost like a pimple) or fat glands. I would have him looked at just to be sure though! Good luck

OK, now it's gone!! WTF! It was hard, like a tooth. Weird. I remember with my dd, when she would get a tooth she would get a large, white, raised bump, and then when the tooth finally erupted the bump would go away and she would just have small, red indentation until the tooth came in more. It still feels rough back there, and I think I can still see a white area on his gum, but it is hard to tell. I can't get him to cooperate. I think I will still take him in. And if it was a cyst or something that burst, I will look like a moron, but oh well. If there is something wrong, at least I will know soonner than later. I have 4 witnesses other than myself who felt and saw something. So I know I'm not crazy. LOL.

Sooooo, we went this morning, and they had no idea. But I saw it. It was a little toothy thing!!!!! Oh well, at least nothing is wrong. I think they thought I was a little bit crazy though. The dentist was an a__s too. At one point my son's binky popped out of his mouth and I picked it up. The dentist gave me this disgusted look and said "don't put that back in his mouth!" What? I'm not a moron. He also had no idea how to handle babies and couldn't even see far enouh into his mouth to tell if there was anything there or not! Oh well.
