4 Day Old Baby Not Sleeping

My baby boy is 4 days old now. He refuses to sleep unless it is when someone holds him. Please tell me this is normal and will pass. He is so tired...yawns ALL the time. I've tried white noises, br___tfeeding him constantly (every hr), rocking, singing...I've even given him a pacifer...nothing seems to be working. I thought for the first week they slept most of the time...

i would just keep doing everything your doing, he is probley just adjusting to the new world, if you have a swing he may enjoy that, congrats! on your new baby boy

Make sure you swaddle him up snug. Newborns are so used to being all snuggly inside us that it's hard for them to get used to having all that room. It's just a lie that all they do is sleep. Each baby is different. My daughter didn't sleep the first 3 weeks, but then started sleeping through the night at 5 weeks. Go figure! Good luck and congratz on the new baby!

There is a really helpful book "the happiest baby on the block" that helped us immensely getting our little one to sleep in the early days. I do agree with Kelly, though, swaddling and shushing work wonders. And no baby follows the sleeping rules precisely. My baby didn't sleep all night and is sleeping now-vampire. :)
