5 30 Pm Bedtime Too Early

We have been having a heck of a time getting our ds to nap during the day now that he doesn't have a swing and as a result he hasn't been napping at ALL during the past few days! My question is how early is TOO early for a bedtime?? Before the nap problem my ds always went to bed around 6:30 pm and slept until 7 am (sometimes 6am) The past week he seems to have reset his bedtime from 5:30 pm and sleeps until 6 am. Is this too early for a bedtime?? I just feel so bad that he is going down that early, but he can't seem to stay awake any longer than that and he goes down so easily and sleeps through. Does anyone else have a lo that goes to bed that early??

my ds is 10 months old, and is similar to yours. He always takes a morning nap (1-2 hours) and if he does not have an afternoon nap he will be in bed at about 6pm. He will sleep through until about 7:30am. If he has the afternoon nap he is usually in bed at about 7pm (and still up at 7:30am). Personally I love it. I am home with him all day, and when he goes to bed early it gives me lots of time to myself and with dh. I don't think you should consider it a problem. The only thing is if he is cranky because he has no naps during the day, you may want to try to get him to sleep, but if not, be happy he is such a good night sleeper!

If that is when your lo is falling asleep and he isn't waking until the next morning then it is fine. My daughter is two and sleeps 12 hours a night, from about 8pm to 8am. What really matters are the waking hours. If you could get him to take atleast an hour nap during the day that would be a good idea as well.

I completely agree that if it seems to be working for your family, then he is ready for bed when he is ready for bed. My son was the same way but it became an issue when I wen tback to work. He has never been a good napper and goes to bed early. Once I went back to work I only had an hour or so a day with him. So we gradually moved his bed time later, in 10 min intervals. Now we aim for 8 but I am happy wiht anytime after 7. If it was a particularlly bad napping day and he is ready for bed at 6 I am not happy but I still let him go to bed.
