5 Months Old Really Need Support This Week

Hi everyone - I have decided to try getting my 5 month old dd to sleep this week by letting her cry. I am so tired sometimes that I am at my wits end. She's been waking at least 2-6 times per night since she was born, and I need sleep. So, today is the first day that I am going to let her cry to sleep. Her nap this afternoon took 1/2 hour for her to fall asleep. I fed her, changed her, gently rocked her and put her down awake, but sleepy. She cried the entire 1/2 hour after that, and I went in every 5 minutes or so to rub her belly and make shh-shh sounds. I have a sleepy time lullaby cd playing as well. I was in tears by the end of it - her little sad cries and everything really got to me, so I know this will be a tough week. Any support will be appreciated, and I don't really want to hear that I am doing the wrong thing, k? This is hard enough without wondering if I am doing the right thing. Thanks so much and I'll keep a progress report going!

I don't think you're doing it wrong at all! And I know what you mean about needing the sleep. It's going to be hard at first, but it will get better and she will cry less, at least that's what's happenning with my ds. He's been getting up at night for the last 6 months (he's 10 months now), so about a month ago I just got fed up of no sleep and decided to let him cry. So I first started letting him cry for 5 minutes at a time and would pick him up and put him on my shoulder for a minute give him kiss, put him down and pat his belly and leave. At first he wouldn't stop crying right away...sometimes it would take 40 minutes, but now all I have to do is go in put his blanket back on, pat him and leave and he stops crying. He still wakes up, but when he does it's shortlived because I just go in rea__sure him and leave right away, he usually just falls back to sleep. Every once in a while he'll keep crying so I just pick him up for a minute then put him back and he's fine again. Just remember it will get better, I promise!

Thanks bradylove. My dream is to sleep for 6 hours straight soon. 6 whole hours would be bliss! sigh..... we'll see how it goes :)

Every once in a while he surprises me and sleeps a full night but most he's up at the very least twice. 6 hours is bliss especially when you haven't slept in 3 years! Am I crazy for wanting a third??!!! Lol!

let us know how tonight goes! my ds is frustrating me, we do our bedtime routine and tehn i put him down, no problem, then always 1 hr later, lik eit was a nap he wakes! why? why does he alway wake 1 hr later and think it was a nap? i fed him he ate a 8oz bottle the routine is the same, sometimes i can just go in a give him a soother and rub his forehead and he will go back to sleep other times it's much harder and i have to feed him to get him back to sleep. then he is good for a few hours till his next feeding. he is 4.5 months now, i though it would be soooo much better by now!
