when you started you lo one cereal did you notice that they drank less or went longer before they wanted a bottle ofter they had their morning cereal. my ds ate at 6:15 and then had a nother bit of sleep from 6:30-7:30. when he woke up i knew he wouldn't want a bottle yet so 30 min later i gave him his cereal. he ate almost 1 tbs and it's 1:15 and he still doesn't want a bottle. He was eating around 50 oz a day, so if he cuts back a bit that would be fine. but is it normal?

once i started DS on cereal, he took about 15-20 ounces a day. he eats cereal w/ apples in the morning, and right now, he's on peas for dinner, than takes about 30 oz of formula or so a day..i think our los are about the same age

i was just going to ask you that? when is your lo's b-day? I noticed that my lo had a terrible night and woke 3 times to eat 7oz during the night. i think he needed to make up the lost calories that he missed from eating cereal and not wanting his bottle? i don't know?

mosley12: did your lo's bedtime / sleep change once on solids?

DD was eating 6 oz every 3 hours. Now, she goes at least 4, usually more, hours between feedings and sleeps through the night. Cereal definitely made a difference. 50 oz seems like a lot, so it seems like he was ready for cereal. Also, they go through growth spurts and eat like crazy and then it subsides. My 4 and 3 year olds still do the same thing. It seems like they're not eating enough because they were eating so much before and then it abruptly decreases. Hmm, I just read about your DS eating 3 times in the night. Not sure about that one. Maybe he didn't feel well during the day and didn't eat much, that's why he was famished during the night. Hope you have a better night tonight!

lin7604, ds was born on oct. 24. he'll be 4 months on saturday. now ne goes to bed around 9:30-10 and usually wakes up around 7-8, but lately has been waking up earlier..today he woke up at 5:30, ate, than went slept for 30 more minutes or so, but he's sleeping straight through the night for the most part.

well well well.... my ds was born too on oct 24th!!! I knew they were close in age but who knew exact! he was sleeping around 8 and would wake for 1 for sure feeding but sometimes 2 still, and has only occasionally slept throught the night. BUt the past week he has been going to bed earlier as he has been fighting his last late nap and has ben waking at 5:30 - 6am! his usual time is 7:30. i hope it is just a phase or a growth spurt.

so did you notice a diffrence in his sleep one you started him on cereal? did you give it to him in the morning? my ds i find lately since giving him cereal in the morning has had TERRIBLE nights! He was predictable before for eating and sleeping and now he eats like a bird all ay after he had his cereal and then when night comes he wants to eat you out of the house! He is up every 1.5 hr wanting to eat cause he hardly ate all day. He was up atleast 7 times last night and ate at 5 of them, sheesh... all full bottles too.

Maybe try cereal at night. I give it about an 1 1/2 hr before dd's bedtime bottle. Also, I started her on rice and it was horrible, she was crying and getting up, and constipated. I switched to oatmeal and it's wonderful. Of course you could try a middle of the day to make sure he tolerates it okay. My DD is almost 6 months now, but we started the cereal at 4 months. We're now on fruit in the morning and veggies at lunch, cereal at night. Good luck at both of you getting a good nights sleep soon!
