Addicted To Hummus

so, my dd is a pretty picky eater but she ADORES hummus, seriously she cannot get enough! she is 12 months. well, last night she ate more than she ever has before, several several large spoonfuls and then she cried out in her sleep off and on all night! I have this suspicion that she gave herself a tummyache! Is the lemon juice in the hummus too much for their bellies do you think?? should I make my own with less lemon juice and garlic? or just not let her gorge herself on it? It is the one thing she will happily eat and open her mouth for more! I think she likes it so much b/c it has so much flavor but still has the consistency of babyfood.

I would guess the garlic would do more damage than the lemon. I make my own hummus and its easy. I would try making it yourself yummy I will be making that this weekend. Thanx!

What are some things to do with hummus? I bought some last month and ended up throwing it away because I didn't really know what to do with it and it expired....lol.

Its yummy as a veggie dip. I usually make chicken then cut up tomatoes, cuc_mbers, kalamata olives then wrap it all in a pita. Or I just dip pita bread in it. Its so yummy!!

Am I the only person that's never heard of hummus or have no clue what it is?? LOL!

I'm with you AshleyB. I have heard of it and seen it in a jar in someones fridge. Never tasted it...nor would I know what to do with it. Are there certain ethnic backgrounds that you hummus eatting folks are a part of? Or is this an Eastern U.S. thing?

What's it taste like?

Hummus is chik peas or garrbonzo beans (same thing) mashed up with tons of garlic, EVOO, lemon juice and spices the spices will vary I like to use rosemary and crushed red pepper in mine but you can get it with sun dried tomatoes, and many other ways. It is Greek ( which is my fav food) It has a ton of protien a great vegatarian dish. It is healthy and yummy. I cant say yummy enough :)

What is EVOO? I saw it referenced in another thread earlier in the week.

We go through hummus like ketchup. It is great a veggie dip, on crackers, pita, anything. It is sooooo good.

To kellens mom, just go buy some and try it out. Imagine a really garlicky bean dip that doesn't taste quite as "beany". My dd loves it,

Mmmmm, hummus!! I used to work at a mediteranean restaurant and I would munch on it all the time with pita bread!! It's also good served with chicken shawarma..... Ooo, and sambousek, and falafal, and tabbouli and stuffed grape leaves.... God I miss that restuarant!!!!

Hey piratesmermaid, I used to work at a mediterranean restaurant too!!! I gained a good 10 lbs. eating a falafel sandwhich with hummus, tzadziki, feta, lettuce, onion and tomato every day for lunch. Oh how I miss unlimited spanakopita and baklava. That was my favorite job!
