my son has had rsv twice -- hospitalized in both instances due to labored breathing. The virus runs its course over 11 to 14 days I think but I'd talk to your ped about when your son can return to daycare. In our case, we were in the hospital for 2-3 days (mon-wed), then he was at home thurs, fri and didn't go back to daycare til the following monday. If they say a half dose is okay, i'd a__sume so. Now that we've had 2 episodes we're using pulmicort as a preventive. he gets it every day til spring. Not sure if diarreah is normal or not; a fever can be. There's not much else you can do...there's no way to cure a virus...you have to let it run its course. Signs that you need to take him back in: high fever and any signs of difficulty breathing (panting, heaving in the ribs). You can count his breaths per minute. I think the range is 25-40 bpm depending on if he's asleep or active. Our son was in the 50-75 bpm range when we took him to the dr's and the hospital. Hope that helps.

thanks jj, he was breathing pretty heavy last night when he was asleep, i just had him sleep in bed with me so i could keep a good eye of him, i didn't count the bpm, but i think im going to call the doctor and let him know, and ask about the daycare
