During a 24 period how much sleep should our 5 mo ds be getting? He does sleep 12-13 hours at night, but his naps are totally sporadic now and just not there, so I was curious as to how much sleep he "should" be getting. Thanks!

According to the website Baby Center a 3 month old needs 10hrs night time sleep & 5 hrs day time sleep. A 6 month old needs 11hrs night time sleep & 3.25 hrs day time sleep.

BTW when my ds was 5 months old he was sleeping 12hrs night time sleep and about 3.5-4 hrs day time sleep broken into 3 naps.

Wow, 12 hours a night. My 5-month-old gets 9 usually (from about 9p until 6:30a). I wish he'd sleep longer but doesn't. He has 3 naps a day, each that ranges from only 30 minutes (hate those) to almost 2 hours. His 3rd nap of the day (at about 6p) is always only 30 minutes.

dd (5.5 m) sleeps 12-13 hours at night and 1.5-3 hours during the day. Her naps are all sporadic suddenly too ( she never takes 3 naps a day only 2- used to sleep 3-4 hours during the day but recently I can't ever get her to sleep more than 1.5 hours at a time.

Thanks! There is a wide range of what's "normal" I guess, but I know that he definetly needs more sleep during the day as he progressively gets grumpier and more bleary eyed. I don't know what happened as he was doing pretty good with naps....no long, long ones, but at least some and then all of a sudden he will NOT take a nap!! It's so frustrating! I hope that it's a phase and that it'll pa__s soon. I feel so bad for him when he's screaming at bedtime b/c he's so tired.

hehe, my dd is 9.5 months and sleeps at least 12 hours at night, usually closer to 13 though, and takes 3-4 hours of naps per day! Yes, she LOVES her sleep and is definitely getting more sleep than the average 9 month old...so there is a huge range of "normal".
