Hi, my lo is 8wks and he's been so constipated and I've been giving him between 2-4oz of juice/water every day for the last 4 days. I mix 1/2oz of Gerber apple-prune juice with 4 oz of water. And it's still been 3 days since he's pooed. So today I saw Little Tummies Laxative drops and bought it, but I just thought I'd ask anyone's experience with it, I'd hate for it to give him little tummy cramps or anything.

Is he b___stfed or formula fed? And did you ask your dr. about the juice? Mine said for b___stfed babies, it's normal after awhile for them to only poop once every few days, and that they won't need additional food til they're a few months old. It would make me slightly nervous to give a baby laxatives. Even baby ones, I would check with your dr. maybe you could give the laxatives as well as something for upset tummies, like Mylicon or Gripe Water.

I was told not to use the Little Tummies laxatives - on that note, I was also told not to dilute the juice if I was giving it to him for constipation. At 2 months, I gave him 2 ounces of undiluted apple juice and he went within a day or two.

He is formula fed. And I do give him the gas drops daily because otherwise he gets uncomfortable from the gas and I've not had any luck with gripe water when he was having tummy issues from his formula. Anyways he was switched to soy, and it made him really constipated, he had a terrible time with the soy, he would just cry and scream from ga__sy belly and bellyaches. He was on it for over 3 wks. So I switched him gentlease and it's made a huge difference, he's doing really well on this formula, but he's still having really hard big stools. It's not that he's not going every day, I know some babies don't, but when he does go, he really struggles and cries, and it will be very hard solid stools, so since the waterjuice thing hasn't made any difference, I thought I might try this, but yes it makes me a bit nervous. I was told to always dilute the juice because it's too sweet and harsh for their young tummies.?

NEVER MIND... Thanks ladies for your responses, but I guess I didn't read the label well enough, its for children 2yrs and older. I didn't use it and he DID just poo finally, but I feel so bad for thelittle guy, they're always so hard and big adn solid. My pedi just told me to give 2-4oz of water a day, but that doesn't seem to be working at all. Any other suggestions ladies?

I would keep up with the juice and possibly try just maybe one ouce of water with 2 oz juice, try pear juice.... My dd is 6 months and she has always been constipated and that is what we have done it will finally come it just takes it a while to work but I would keep doing water/juice

I would ask about giving him a couple of ounces of undiluted apple juice a couple of times a week. It really helped us with the hard stools. It works more like a stool softener as where prune juice works more like a laxative. Thats all I know of really. Good luck!!

Thanks ladies, I will try the juice with less water, and try that for a few days. We go for his 2 month shots here next week, so I'll ask the doc again if it isn't helping by then. THanks again.

Ashley, my ds is 12 weeks old and I thought he was constipated so I took him to the pedi. Turns out he was not constipated (=hard stools like your lo) but just had delayed stools. He is only having a bowel movement about once a week. But the Dr did tell me I could help by gently ma__saging his tummy. Gently place your hand on the tummy so your fingers are on either the left or right side of the tummy and slowly and gently knead on one side then the other for about a minute. I've read that gentle ma__sage in clockwise circles around the belly b___ton can help too.
