Anyone Hear This About Baby Orajel

My mother in law says that Baby Orajel toughens their gums and actually makes it harder for teeth to cut. Is this true??? Anyone hear this? Because it says on the box not to give it to them until 4 months and my daughter will be 4 months in 10 days and I want to give it to her soon because I feel like her gums really bother her.

Before I had my DS i worked for a Dentist and he recommended Baby Orajel all the time to our patients. He never had anything negative to say about it! The majority of my friends have used it also...without any problems! good luck!!

Is it okay to use it 10 days before she's 4 months? 10 days to me doesn't sound like much but you never know!

I've also heard that Orajel can numb their swallow reflex...I've never used it. My ds just broke his first tooth about 1.5 wks ago (he was 7 months). I've used Tylenol occasionally and homepathic teething drops. Letting them suck/chew on frozen teething rings helps. Or ice chips in a mesh feeder.

I believe DDT is right..i would a__sume it can cause a SLIGHT numbing of the throat...have you ever used adult orajel? It does ever so slightly numb whatever it touches...though I am sure adult stregth and infant stregth are MUCH different. but the sensation only lasts a minute and then is normal. And a baby's natural instinct when anything is put in their mouths is to "taste" so there is the chance that they will swish it a little in their mouths...but I am sure it is nothing to worry about. People have been using baby orajel for years and I am sure if it is all that harmful you would have heard about studies confirming it. But like DDT said...there are other alternatives! he has some great ideas. I don't think ten days is all that much but that is really your call. If she seems to be in extreme discomfort I probably would go ahead with it.

I've heard that thing about the baby Orajel numbing the throat too. I think u just have to be careful how much u use and how u put it in. I have my 4 month appt next wk so I'm going to ask my dr. I've also heard that the homeopathic teething tablets have caffeine and bella donna (slightly poisonus plant or herb??) in them. But, if they all say that then what are we supposed to do haha?? Like someone said, people have been using both for years. I'm going to wait and see what my pedi says. Or, u could try the American Academy of Pedi's website and see what they say?
