Anyone Using A Second Hand Breast Pump

I know it is everywhere that it is a bad idea but all their reasons are still only in theory - no doc_mented reports of any baby getting an infection. Anyways, my step-mother, who just had a baby 4 years ago and who is healthy has the medela Pump in style pump to lend me. New this is a 250 dollar pump. I have a hard time rationalizing that I should spend that kind of money if all the hype out there is another way to scare the c__p out of new mothers. Anyone have a used pump with no problems? Thoughts?

You can buy a kit (some hospitals can give it to you) for medela. The kit has new tubing, bottles (2 usually for a dual pump), valves and b___st cups. This way anything that is touched by your b___st or your milk is new! My MIL works at a hospital in TX and they sell this kit for under $50 I think.

I got a used pump and I got the collection kit from my hospital and my insurance paid for it and I still even use the stuff that came with it for extra stuff at work so I'm not washing it all the time. I've never had any problems with her getting sick or anything either.
