Awake How Long

My dd is almost 11 weeks old. During the day, she can only be up for one hour before becoming cranky and tired. For those of you with older babies, how long can they happily stay awake... and how old are they?

my son is 8 months and he stays awake for about 4 hours before he needs a nap. When my son was 3 months he would wake up about 6 then go back to sleep at 8 then at 10 and then would stay awake for the rest of the afternoon and would need 1 nap before bed...at around 5. Then he would go down for bed at 8.

My dd is 6 months old. She will stay up for about 3 hours before needing a nap. She is up @ 6AM and in bed around 7.

My son is almost 5 months old and he usually wakes up around 7:30am, goes down about 9:30 for a nap and then is up for two hours, then another nap, etc. He takes his last nap about 5:30 or 6:00p.m. for 30 minutes and is usually in bed for the night at 8:00 or 9:00 at the latest.

My daughter is only 3 weeks old. She sleeps all and only wakes up for feedings and diapers changes. Then at around 6 pm she stay awake and alert for 3-4 hours. I put her to bed around 10pm. She gets up around 2-3 am. Then sleeps again until 7am. But like your daughter she is only awake for short periods during the day before she gets cranky.

My daughter is almost 4 1/2 months old, and she usually can only stay awake happy for an hour at a time (almost half of that time will be nursing!). The only time she is awake longer than an hour at a time is at night--after her late afternoon nap. She'll be up from 6:30 to 8:30--then goes to bed for the night. (Unless we are out somewhere, and her schedule gets really screwed up!). She does start fussing exactly one hour after she wakes up. I used to work in the nursery at a day care center, and most of the babies under a year old would only be up for 2 hours at a time.

it sounds about right to me. My dd is now 6 months, and she is awake about 3 hours in the morning, naps, gets up and about 1 hour after lunch needs nother 1-2 hour nap, and then she is good until bedtime around 7pm. Your kids will evolve where they need the awake time. Also, around 12 weeks they go through a growth spurt and need a little more sleep.

My littlest girl is 2 months, and she is not very pleasant after 2 hours usually, unless it is morning after she has had so much sleep. Even a little catnap improves her att_tude.

Thanks for all your comments/stories. I was wondering how long it would be until Aria could stay awake (happily) for more than an hour or two. Looks like 6 months makes a big difference.
