Baby Fell Off Examing Table At Doctors Office

Wed. I had my ob/gyn checkup. Sarahs been rolling for about 2 months now. I had her lying on the exam table playing and she had a poopy diaper so I turned a little to where her stoller was right behind me and thump I heard her fall to the ground a few seconds later I heard her screaming, I FREAKED out. I grabbed her, I had on a gown throw the door to the exam room open, the doctor was across the hall in her office I was like she fell off the exam table, and the nurse must of heard me so they came running too. So they were like take her to the ER and get her checked out. I couldn't remember the number of her dad's cell phone, finally got in touch with him, and took her to the ER. I was so afraid the nurses there were gonna lecture me but they didn't. One made a snide remark about "Is this your first child?" What was that supposed to mean? But she had no bumps, bruises or anything, it was a miracle, the only thing I can think is that her guardian angel caught her. I was a scary experience. I always knew you couldn't turn you back on your baby for even a second but know that really means something to me. I felt so bad, all I could keep telling her was I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I think I was hurting worse then her. But she's forgotten all about it by now I'm sure but I don't think I ever will.

You poor thing!!! My baby slid off the couch with her father sitting RIGHT there. Thankfully there were no witnesses! I know you must feel terrible, but remember the old wives tale that if they don't fall off the bed by 1 year they won't grow(LOL). These things seem to happen right in front of us. And don't worry about the nurse's comment - I don't like it when people act like first time mom's are ignorant! Are you telling me that it wouldn't have happened if you had ten more running around you? I'm really glad you're baby is OK!

Oh, that must have ben awful! I'm sorry that had to happen. It's amazing how fast such a little person can move! Luckily she's alright...although I'm sure you will take much longer to recover. I'm sure accidents happen to every mom at some time....we're only human. Perhaps the snide remark "is this your first child" only meant that all first time moms have accidents of some kind or another, in which we learn from. It certainly doesn't make you any less than a great mom. Don't be too hard on yourself hon!

Ginny I like the growing comment, mom said her mom always said a baby has to fall by a year to knock some sense into them :)

I am so happy for you that your lo is ok.....all you can do is your very best and in the end we are all human......because we are not perfect accidents happen..... this is the reason you carry car insurance (can you tell I am an insurance agent?) non of those people meant to have a car collision either.......thats why we call them accidents......to heck with anyone who acts like they have never done anything that could be considered an accident it really does'nt matter what those people think cause they are not the kind of people you want to a__sociate with......again happy everything is ok and I can only hope when my turn comes for an accident that everything will be ok too....

I don't know anyone who's baby or young child hasn't had some kind of accident. Those things happen! Mine have had some close calls, and like you said, it's usually me that's awake at night thinking---what if.....?what if....?---My 8-year-old son is a walking accident so I've spent many sleepless nights over him;-)

I feared the worse when I saw the t_tle of this thread! I am sooo glad she was not hurt. I am not sure why she did not get hurt bc last I knew, those formica (sp?) floors are rock solid. It really is true - it just takes a second. Sadly, the only way to know that personally is to find out the hard way but hopefully your story will save someone from the scare of their life.
