Baby Has Not Had A Bowel Movement In Days

I think I read somewhere that once a baby reaches a certain age, they may not necessarily have a bowel movement every day. Does anyone know what age? My little guy is 11 weeks old and has not had a bm in the last 2 days. He's getting plenty of br___t milk and supplements of formula so why does this happen?

well for one their digestive system isn't fully matured right after birth. It isn't until around 3 months or so that things mature, so thats why. They can retain their poop better I suppose! Ethan used to poop many times a day and suddenly went to about once every other day!

Our d/d had the same issue. I wouldn' let mine go more than 3 days. Doc suggested glycerin suppositories or taking rectal temp to get things moving. Good luck.

If you are really concerned, try giving him a little bit (one ounce or so at a time) of apple or pear juice once or twice a day. That way nobody has to have a suppository - I know I sure wouldn't want one. My son's ped ok'd clear juice when he was even younger than your son.

Perl, My SIL b___stfed (I didnt so Im refering to her) and her youngest one went almost a week w/out a bm a few times. She said it was normal...that b___st milk is so efficient that they use every bit of it up. So plz dont give him anything until you verify w/a doc. B/c I believe its not unheaard of of BF babies. On the other hand my poor bottle fed baby was constipated ALL the time...and at 4yrs still get s backed up! OY. I know every tip in the world to get kids to poop. LOL. Good luck, but I think hes fine..call the doc.

Thanks everyone. Suze, I heard of that too but didn't know the reason why it was different for b___stfed babies. Thanks for the info.
