Baby Not Settling

The other day our usually placid 2 1/2 week old dd suddenly became very difficult.. She was fighting sleep during the day and basically didn't sleep between 12 and 5. She finally fell asleep until 8 and then fed, but it took us 2 hours to get her back to sleep again. We had been visiting two of my dh's grandparents during the day and were at his brothers house that night. Once we came home she wouldn't stop crying and nothing would stop her. We were up with her until 2am and I was crying myself because I just didn't know what to do. She'd start to fall asleep and then wake up and cry again. Do you think she could have been over stimulated by going to too many places that day? I'm sure that she was overtired but for some reason she just wouldn't sleep. She was also wanting to feed more frequently during the day, and I'm wondering if by feeding her more I was just creating more gas for her?

Sounds to me like it was a combination of both. She was probably over tired from all the activity and when a baby gets over tired they will fight sleep even more. But, when a baby is ga__sy they think they need to eat more because it is comforting for them, so they end up over eating and really uncomfortable. Get some gas drops like mylicon and keep them on hand.

Yeah some babies mistake the ga__sy feelings with hunger pains...so that could be it. If you have pacifiers (we never used them) but if you do use them it typically calms them
