ok....my daughter is 4 weeks old. I love just staring at her, but i was wondering when she will become more interactive. she is more alert and stares back at us (which is fairly recent). So when will she interact with dh and myself.....what type of interaction will she have first? I cant wait for giggles. She does smile every day....but im not sure if she is smiling at me or if its just gas?

My son is 11 weeks today, and he is just starting to try and giggle. He started smiling at us (not because of gas) around 7 weeks. Talk in high pitched tones to your daughter. Babies respond the best to those tones. You will know when the smiles arent gas anymore. Their entire face will light up and it will be longer for more than a second!

I loved just having the eye contact - pretty soon she will interact a little more, but grabbing and laughing should still be a ways away. We have the baby einstein thingy (what's it called?) where you lay them on the mat and they can bat at objects. My baby loved laying under that and looking at the lights, objects. That is probably when he first started interacting. Sing to her and watch her changing reactions... Especially in the morning! They are more alert then! I think my guy was a late smiler/laugher. That is pretty good if she is smiling at 4 weeks!! They progress so quickly!
