My 8.5 mth DS has a black and blue spot on his upper gum.. initially was small now has increased in size... almost looks like a vein -- sort of blue and black...he is teething.. could this be a result? Has anyone experienced this? It doesn't seem to bother him, he chomps on his teething ring right on the area without any concern. Thanks in advance.

The tissues in your mouth can bruise just like any other part of your body. If he is really aggressive with his teethers it is most likely bruising and nothing to worry about. I was a dental a__sistant for 10 years and would see this periodically. If you are really concerned though, you can always take him to see the pediatrician for peace of mind.
