Bonnie Or Other Reflux Mom

Bonnie you seem to be a lot of help on this topic since you LO has so much trouble with reflux. Sarah seems to be doing wonderful on the Zantac but last night she started to spit up a lot more. I think she has a cold, or is getting one. Do you think it's the cold or the reflux, I hate calling the dr's office for stuff like this, but if you think it's from the reflux I will. I feel so bad for her sometimes. Thank you.

My daughter has acid reflux also and is on Pepcid, but unfortunately....I don't think it is working well anymore. I see the pedi on Thursday and going to try to switch to something else. I don't think the spitting up would have to do with a cold. They are still going to spit up. She might have just had air bubbles and caused her to spit up more. Was she really fussy while this was happening? If it was a one time thing, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on her. Wait a couple of days and see how things continue to go. I feel so bad for our babies having this. It makes life hell.

Hi :)...one thing about the reflux meds is that they do not actually stop the refluxing, they only reduce the pain. Though I knw that soudns terrible. Reflux also (according to my GI) peaks around 4-5 months so depending on how old your LO is, she just may be getting to that stage. So here is the question....whit her spitting up more, is hse in pain or not? If she is in pain then most definately you should call your ped. Zantac is very weight regulated so she may need a higher dose now. Sometimes those drugs are not enough and they need to go to PPI drugs like Prevacid and Prilosec. She may need to see a GI specialist. If she is not having any pain, then the medicine is doing it's job and don't worry. Other than itbeing messy for you :P the only cuase for concern would be if she stops eating or spits up so much she starts losing weight. Paige, same thing for you....Pepcid, Zantac, and Axid are all H2 blockers and the dosage is by weight, so depending on how much weight she has gained it just mey need to be upped.....ladies, go tot he forums at www.infantrefluxdisease.com Those mommies are far mroe knowledgable then I am on a lot of this stuff as well, they have been helpingme out with Mason quite a bit (I am Mirra on there). Good luck!

Ok thank you guys, I don't think she was in pain when this was happening. The ped didn't tell me about the med not stopping the refluxing just the pain, but that makes sense. I just can't believe how much happier she is now, she playing in her bouncy seat now, she's so cute. :)

Awww, it sounds like you are doing well :) The reflux she will eventually outgrow. Do not worry about it unless she is in pain or is losing weight. Sounds like the med is doing it's job. I long for the day when we can get Mason that happy. How old is yours now?

So Bonnie....how is Mason doing? What are the doctors trying now?

Well, he is on Neocate formula and we thicken it with something called Thick It. He is also on Prevacid and Pepcid. The meds and thickening have helped a lot but not enough. He sees a therapist as well and she described it perfectly....he has gone from being in extreme pain to being very uncomfortable. He still cries most of the day and rarely smiles....but it is not as extreme as before so I am hesitant to change anything. I am waiting on a callback from the GI's office this morning to discuss how he has been so we'll see what she says.

that is just awful. I feel for you and espically for Mason. I hope everything will get better. I upped the pepcid some on Meagan and she seems to be doing better. She is actually smiling now, which is nice to see. Its such a releive! Well keep me updated on Mason. I am always curious to see how he is doing. By the way....how old is he?

Well, we are keeping with the meds and not changing formulas. Sheis adding a pro-biotic to his regimen and is hoping that works. She suspects his bacteria is off, or it could possibly be motility. If the pro-biotics do not work then suspects motility issues which basically means his tummy is just not developed enough and does not coordinate well. That resolves over time. :( We give it until he is around 3 months old 4 more weeks) and then rea__sess him, If he is just as bad they may do an endoscopy look inside there and verify that everythingis working well and that there is no damage to his esophagus.....So let us hope that the pro-biotics and a little more time helps him. :)

Sarah is now 3 1/2 months. She's growing so quickly. I hope that the probotics work for Mason, I know it is AWFUL watching you baby being in pain and there being nothing you can do for them. I will keep you guys in my prayers too.
