Bottle Change Question

My son is 7 months and I have been wanted to change bottles for about a month. he currently uses the dr. brown's bottles which did wonder for him when he was an infant and i love them. but now that he at the stage to hold his own bottle, the 8 ounce bottles are so heavy and recently they started leaking, probably with over time usage. i tried using the playtex ventaire the skinny ones and he doesn't like the nipple because it is smaller but i thought the slanted end would help himself with feeding. now that he is eating three solid meals he is at 6 oz. bottles during the day and an 8 ounce before bed so i would like to buy 6 ounces bottles. if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

bump.

I am getting ready to switch from Dr. Browns myself. Ventaire also makes a wide bottle where the nipple would be wider and thicker. I am going to switch to the Avent however. I am tired of all the little pieces.

well i just bought the smoothie bottles we will see, i was looking for something lighter. i hate all the parts too from the dr. browns.

Yes....the smoothie. I here those are wonderful...are they lighter? Whats the nipple like? Do they produce a lot of air?

they seem lighter, they are supposed to be good bottles, i used one on my son when he was little and he liked it, the hospital gave it to me. the nipple is like the dr. brown it is a larger nipple that is why i got it. the advent nipple is flat on the top so i wasn't sure if he would like those so i am going to try this one at his 4 o'clock feeding and see if he likes it

well he drank from the soothie bottle just fine so i will try it for another day or so and if he has no problems with it i will probably switch. what i notice though is the nipple isn't raised very high, so it seems the nipple part is right up against his nose. didn't seem to bother him.

I was thinking about doing the same thing with my dd, she is 7.5 months old and she is trying to start holding it and feed herself but I think the dr browns are too long and I am tired of all the parts, but I am scared of her getting gas pain... So I am sort of scared to switch her.

i know, well i just tried the different one today. i was kind of hoping by this age the they don't have as much gas problems, i thought it was more when they are little, or am i wrong, i guess i don't know.

Hey shannah, you know a baby should be winging off of a bottle around 9 months or so anyway, so why not try a sippy cup ? I will be honest i waited too long to take DS off the bottle and it was a nightmare , lol...this time i am already introducing sippy cups to my second DS and he is 9 months.

ash2 what sippy cup do you find is the best when weaning??

ash2 - March 15

I tried the " nuby " first, but showed no interest. Im going to buy the playtex one that has the regular spout because i have heard babies adapt better with those ! You can also try feeding him from a sippy cup that has the " sunk " in opening whole....dont know the name of it, but ds drinks better out of those. Im sure you can get them at walmart... i have always said " if you cant buy it at walmart, you dont need it !" , lol

i use the same sippy cups the soft top ones - i give him water in it. so, i should just try giving him milk in it? he was weird with the hard top sippy cups the ones with the little whole but he liked those cheap travel ones. i guess i never thought of giving him his milk in it

oh, when he uses the sippy cups he takes a couple of swigs then stops and i give it to him again, he doesn't like drink drink out of it like milk. i guess i should try it with milk (which i mean formula when i say milk) and see what he does
