Bottles And Nipples

I am having a hard time with my newborns feedings (bottle feeding). Every nipple I find seems to be either to fast or too slow. Any suggestions on a good one?

I just tried the NUK nipples for the gerber bottles and my baby actually takes it! (he's b___stfed and has rejected every other bottle I could find but I have plans to go out next month and I wanted to be able to leave him for a few hours). I like the NUK nipples because they are shaped like the NUK soothers, but also because the hole is on the top rather than on the tip so the milk doens't go straight down his throat, it sort of fills up his mouth instead. They also have a vent in them to let air in so they don't swollow as much.

At first I used gerber newborn bottles and nipples. The nipples are really tiny, which was perfect for her little mouth. Later I switched to Avent and I really like those.

I had the same problem. I ended up going with the Playtex nurser system and it works great. She uses them at daycare with no problems and I still nurse her when she's at home.

I wasnt able to b___stfeed because my milk never came in. So Maddox was started on bottles pretty quickly. I did the playtex nursers with drop ins and he would choke on those the milk came out too fast. Then tried Avent, I had a lot of problems with those leaking all over the place. Right now I use the Dr Browns, and those are the best bottles! They are even helping with all of Maddox's gas problems and they also help prevent water on the ear! The ones I purchased came with a newborn nipple that works great for him. He eats so frantically, like he is never going to get another bottle.. EVER! Poor guy.. I call him my little piglet! : )

Thanks! These darned bottles are the most frusrating thing ever. At teh hospital we had those disposable nipples that fir on the bottles, they are the only ones that seem to work. But they are disposable and widening up fast as they aren;t meant to be reused. My DH went otu and bought some toher brand (I forget which) and we can't get ANYTHING out of them. I even poked a hole with a durned fork, lol. We are using the Nuk ones now, ut they are still pouring too fasta nd he is choking a LOT. I haven't tried playtex or Dr.Brown. I will try those as we definately have gas issues as well. Thanks again.

It's very frustrating isn't it? I had the problem where either one was coming out too fast or wasn't coming out at all! The nursers worked great for us but one of the caps leaked terribly. Try the Dr. Browns. They're kind of spendy though and a pain to clean I heard.

Try the gerbers...they are the most similar to the ones at the hospital. They're cheap too...three bottles with nipples for $3...so if they don't work out you haven't wasted a lot.

I use Avent and right now, she loses alot of milk out of the corner of her mouth. Less than in the begining, but it still soaks her little bib. I liked the Dr Browns (I had one with my first) but they are a pain to clean. (Too many pieces.) I would try many different brandsto see what you like. Your baby will most likely take any bottle you give her, so buy a couple different ones to test them.
