My ds2 (8 months old) is on day 4 of having very runny bright yellow poop. He is pooping every 1-2 hrs and it has a very sour smell to it. He is drinking his formula as normal though. Ds1 had the same thing when he was getting his 1st molars in and again with his canines, so when ds2 started getting it I assumed it was related to teething, but ds1 never experienced this much poop for this long. It lasted maybe 2 days and was only 2-3 runny, yellow diapers. Could ds2 have something else? I was planning on taking him to the doc on Tues if he was still having the runs. Has anyone experienced this or have any idea what it could be? He seems fine besides a snotty nose...no fever ect.

hi my ds just had the same thing. it was sour smelling and it was runny, man that was a tough 4/5 days. because it was disgusting. and right about that time his other bottem tooth had broken and it was red and swollen. so i'm guessing it is due to teething.

Weird, that sounds like my dd's poop but she is b___stfed so I know it is normal for her but not sure about formula fed babies. I never heard that about the relation to teething so that is interesting. Mine started pooping a lot the other day and I know she is teething, or at least think she is. I have yet to see a tooth though :(

Hi DDT. Almost two weeks ago my ds started having the same poopy problem. He is 8 1/2 months. I couldn't understand why because I hadn't changed anything in his diet....b___stmilk, rice/oatmeal cereal, Gerber veggies/fruit and those puff things. I couldn't think of anything different I ate either. I think he had it for 4-5 days. However, he was still eating, no fever, acting normal, etc. Daycare even made me take him home early that Friday, in case what he had was contagious. By Monday, he was fine. Well, this past weekend his two bottom teeth popped out. I didn't put it together until I saw this post. I feel better now....a__suming that was the issue. Keep us posted on what's going on with your ds2....hoping he's back to solid poops.

Hi ladies. Thanks for responding. Ds2 is still having yellow explosions in his diaper but not as frquently as before. He has about 2 of these runny, yellow poops a day. They are really gross. I am taking him to the doc tomorrow afternoon (couldn't get an appointment until then). I am interested to see what the doc is going to say about it. Yesterday ds2 was sitting playing on the ground...I came into the room and immediately smelled that sour smell. The poop was sitting in a big round puddle behind him...it had come out with such force it shot right out of the top of his diaper. Sooo gross!! I will update once we get home from the doc.

Hi fefer! I looked up Rotavirus last night and it seems just like what Jaxon has. They say extreme cases can last 8 days so if it lasts longer than that I will take him to the doc. Day 8 would be this Friday. I just don't want to make a trip all the way to the doc's office for him to tell me there is nothing he can do. I know there is nothing he can do...Jaxon is drinking his formula just fine and dehydration would be the only main concern here. I think I am just going to wait it out. Here in BC Canada the rotavirus vaccination isn't given to infants yet...in Ontario it is experimental. I guess they want to see if it's effective or neccessary before they make it standard practice across the country.

ick - the rotavirus is nasty if he has it. Be careful yourself because it is pretty easy to catch. Wash GOOD!! And watch your other kid too. I don't have a clue how I got it from my niece at the time but I did. :) There isn't anything a doctor can do for you either unless dehydration is an issue - I'd wait it out as long as he's drinking/eating anything at all. Sounds like he is. I had it so bad it came out both ends - pregnancy and morning sickness made it seem worse so I don't know HOW bad it was. I even called my OB and they said if I wasn't dehydrated to not come in because everyone at the time had it.

WOW ALL OF YOUR BABIES ARE 8 MONTHS AND HAVING THIS... HMM AND MY SON IS ABOUT TO BE 3 MONTHS NEXT WEEK AND HE'S ALREADY GETTING IT TOO. I KNOW HE'S NOT TEETHING YET. AND I'M BREASTFEEDING HIM. I EAT REALLY HEALTHY AND HE'S BEEN PPOPING LIKE THIS FOR 3 DAYS. BUT AS I CAN SEE FROM THESE COMMENTS IT GOES FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS. IF IT GOES ANY LONGER SHOULD I TAKE HIM TO THE DOCTOR??????
