Can Mastitis Be Caused By Stress Trauma

My ds is almost 6 mo old & has been BF exclusively w/o any problems. I was in a car accident a few weeks ago (the car behind me decided he didn't want to stop & rear ended me at about 40mph). About 5 days after the accident I thought I was just getting the flu...fever, chills, aches... that good stuff. Shortly there after I noticed that I had a huge red/hot spot on the inside of my left br___t (where the seatbelt would have grabbed me when it locked) & it was quite painful. I called my dr., she said it sounded like mast_tis & put me on antibiotics, which worked wonderfully! I didn't even think to ask her if the accident would have had any affect or not? Just kind of curious...thanks!

I dont see why not...I have had two b___st infections that started as blocked ducts from too much milk....maybe the seatbelt just bruised or damaged a milk duct...if it swelled internally maybe it lead to blockage and mast_tis....Glad your feeling better

Sounds reasonable to me. I know whenever I get a clogged duct, it's always after I've slept on that side for a long period (I always get them on the outside of my b___st), or Carlie just didn't eat well from that side. I always get the chills and achiness although I've never taken antibiotics for it. I'm no dr. but it sounds sensible to me that a trauma to that area would also cause it....
