My son is almost 3 months and for the past 3 weeks or so he hasn't or won't sleep for more than 20 min if I am lucky at a time unless he is in my arms. How do I get him to go to sleep on his own w/o letting him cry? I have let him cry himself to sleep but he cried for 1hr and 30min STRAIGHT!!! I feel so bad because u can see that he is tired but he just won't sleep until it night time. Any one have any suggestion on how to get him to sleep???

Max did the same thing at that age. He did grow out of it. I think the world is just so interesting to them at that age that they don't want to miss a thing by taking a nap. This is probably an equally bad habit to start, but I get Max to go down for a nap by laying him in my bed and turning on Cartoon Network. He will only watch for maybe 2-3 minutes and he is out like a light. He can't nap if its quiet so just leave the TV on. This also helps so I can bang around the house cleaning without worrying about waking him up.

We went back to swaddling our dd to get her down for naps - it took a few days, but she'll finally nap when I put her down after she falls asleep in my arms. she's 3 1/2 mos old now

My ds is 15 weeks today. He's been going through the same thing for the last five weeks or so. However, he has been sleeping longer at night. Unfortunately, when we started daycare three months ago, he reverted to taking longer naps and waking up at night after 6 hours (he was going 9 hours). He's slowly sleeping longer at night again. This whole episode seemed to start when he was able to see further and focus on objects, so we thought the same as Kara H. that "they don't want to miss a thing by taking a nap." He also started getting fussier before we put him down for the night.

Oops, we started daycare three WEEKS ago. Naps are the daycare's problem now, but beforehand I would just let him sleep as long as he wanted. When he woke up 20-30 minutes later, I would pick him up and feed/change/entertain him till his next 20-30 minute nap.
