i've been giving my 6 month old cereal once a day and fruit and veggies twice a day. is this enough cereal or should she be getting cereal 2-3 times a day?

My ds is 7 months but his solid feeding hasn't changed since he was 6 months. I give cereal (5-6 tbps) & fruit for breakfast; fruit/veggie combo for lunch; and then fruit/veggie for dinner. I only give cereal 1x a day because my son is prone to constipation. I do know that for the most part its more common to give cereal 2x a day. Is your lo BF or FF? If FF then only 1x is okay because they get most of their iron intake from the formula. If she is BF then I think 10tbsp a day is enough for her to get the iron she needs.

i was giving my ds cereal 3 times a day as he had allergies to many fruits and veggies at the time also b/c he was always a hungry baby and we had to lower his intake of formula as he was drinking over 50 oz a day.

Sounds like you are doing things right. You could add cereal as a snack at night time if you wanted, but it sounds like he is getting plenty. They still need lots of milk at 6 mos. too.

DDT, my dd is FF but her intake has gone down a lot since starting solids! she is a small baby, only about 13-14 lbs at 6 months now. wow- 6 to 10 tbsp of cereal? i have only been giving her like 3! guess i should see if she will take more.

Yes, my ds's formula intake also decreased quite drastically once we started lunch at 6 months. He is down to max 20oz a day now. I was VERY worried about it for the longest time, but after talking with a nurse she told me not to worry if he is still gaining weight (they like to see 1 lbs increase a month) & hitting all his milestones. She told me that if he is then he's getting all the nutrition he needs. When did you start solids?

i would of liked to see my ds's intake go down when he started as he needed to but it never changed at all.
