COLIC OR UPSET TUMMY

My 2 month old ds has recently, in the last 2 weeks, started having crying fits. Well, not so much crying, more like screaming. It usually starts around 6pm and ends around 9pm. He literally cries for 3 hours. My pediatrician has prescribed Peragort (sp?) and it seems to work but during the 3 hours I'm going out of my mind. My husband and I have to take him in shifts because it becomes so overwelming. Is this a sign of colic? I thought it was a continuous thing not specific times. Any advice on things that we can do to help him? After he lets out his gas he is completely fine and he sleeps through the night. I'm just upset b/c I can't seem to help him.

My daughter is 6 weeks, and has been going through the exact same thing as your son....usually at about the same time at night too. My understanding is that colic does occur the same time every day, and is usually because of a stomach upset/gas. It is heartbreaking to hear her scream and not really be able to help. She is starting to improve though...thank goodness. She doesn't cry for nearly as long any more and seems more content. My daughter loves to be walked around--that helps. Her swing helps too sometimes. I also try laying her on my legs and gently pushing her legs up towards her tummy to help get the gas out. She doesn't like that too much, but it helps. Good luck!

My daughter was colicky from about week 2 to week 10. She cried at the exact same time every night...mid-night to 4a.m. If it is colic...hang in there...it usually ends around 12 weeks. I feel for you...I know what it is like to have a screaming baby that you have fed, changed, ma__saged, bathed, comforted, walk, swung, etc. and nothing makes them happy. There were soooo many night where I cried right along with her. The book "Happiest Baby on the Block" gives really good tips. That book and the Miracle Blanket (to swaddle) were life savers for us. We also used gripe water which helped. THis phase will pa__s...I promise!!!

YC--when did you give the Gripe Water? I've tried it with my daughter (she hates it!) But have found that by the time I give it to her...it's too late, and the gas is already trapped in her tummy.
