my 5 day old lil boy has a few pimples with whiteheads on his neck and shoulder, and they seem to be rather red,or bothered in appearance.now should i be concerned that a rash has begun or is it just a case of the regular pimples infants get??

David, it is totally normal, and will subside. My baby was bright red from head to toe, and also had many white-head pimples at birth. He was free and clear at about 1 month of age.

mine had this too... it's nothing to worry about. you can talk to your ped. for you babies first checkup if you havn't already gone as well.

yeah...My baby was born with perfect skin at birth and then 3 weeks later got baby acne on her face...now it is off of her face and on her neck instead...the acne on her neck is finally clearing up now...she's 7 weeks old. One thing that worked on her was baby oil...You'd think that the baby oil would clog her skin, but it did the opposite...it kept her skin moist and I guess it was like a barrier..

I have noticed that where my little one dribbles, like her chin and under her neck, those horrible little spots come up.

Tahlia's Mama, don't you hate it when the spit gets in the folds of the neck? my baby hates it when I clean in the folds of her neck...I wonder if it hurts her..or whether it's just annoying.

Toya my girl is the same hates it when i wash the skin fold under her neck I've been putting a little cornstarch there because due to the heat and the air can't get in it she's getting alittle red I don't think it's sore she just hates it when I have to clean there.

I was told to put Desitin under the neck, or in any fold that becomes red and inflammed due to lack of airflow, and too much moisture. It works immediately to bring relief to the baby. I know this b/c I used Nair on my legs and while it was burning like hell, I applied Desitin to my legs and the burning/itching subsided right away.

Kerry, yeah..my baby broke out in a rash in her neck because of the moisture. I am using baby powder in the creases now and that seems to work.

Its awful when she screams at me for cleaning her up!! lol. Toya, have you tried cleaning out their noses? My DH came running in thinking I was torturing her...

E, would balmex work too?

E - June 27

Toya, yes, balmex or any diaper rash ointment is fine to use. It is better than powder b/c it will reduce inflammation. Make sure you dry her well after each feeding/bath, as well as several times per day. Oh, the work that a baby requires.... Ugh:) I am so tired today.

E - June 27

thanks for the advice! I will try this...It makes sense that it will work. and since it's instant relief for the baby, that's even better!

Toya - June 27

Oops...that last comment was from me...not by E...I was addressing E.

Toya - June 27

E, I tried the balmex and it WORKED! I wiped the rash in her neck with a cool towel, dried it and then applied balmex. My baby cried when I was wiping her with the towel, but once I put that balmex on her she was calm and she started cooing! it almost made me want to cry, because I heard her relief!!! Thank you thank you thank you!

E - June 27

Yeah Toya!! I only found this out b/c of the Nair situation. God, that hurt.

E - June 27

I should tell you that I apply Desitin every night after the bath, to prevent a rash. Same to the b___t/genitals and under the armpits. My baby never gets diaper rash b/c of this. He was getting a rash in the armpit area, but that is under control now also.
