Dd Has Had A Cold For Over A Week

My dd went to her first b-day party last weekend and of course caught a little cold. Nothing to serious, just the sniffles and runny nose. A little sneezing and crankyness. But she has had it now for 10 days. Not any worse, but not any better either. We have a cool mist humidifier on, and use the vicks vapor plug in at night so she can breath better, but she is still kind of stuffy. And she gets cranky taking her bottle, I guess because it is hard to breath and suck on a bottle at the same time. Do you think it is normal for a cold to last this long? She has a regular wellness visit next week, do you think I should take her before that. I know there is not much a doc can do for a cold. She does not have a fever, and her snot (sorry) is normal color, not green like an infection. What do you think?

My dd also had a cold and it lasted about 2 weeks. I gave her .3 ml of tylenol cold when she got cranky, but mainly she was fine. Using a nasal aspirator really helped a lot to get the stuff out of her nose before I fed her. My doctor said it's fine unless they get a fever.

I wouldn't be surprized a bit if she has an ear infection when she goes in for her well baby checkup. Our ped said any stuffiness that last 2 wks has a high chance of causing an ear infection. Max never runs a fever or tugs on his ears. He will just fuss during feedings and if he is laid flat.

Colds can last a while. Ten days isn't unusual. Three days in, three days on, and three days out.....as long as she doesnt' have green snot or isn't cranky all the time, or shows any signs of an ear infection, you should be able to wait till your appointment.
