Diarea And Soy Formula

My dd(9 months old) has had diarea for going on 2 wks now...for a few days at the very beginning she was throwing up too, and both dh and I got it also as well as the rest of the families w/ kids going to the daycare our dd goes to. She's completely better, except for this diarea that's still hanging around. We've tried everything, tons of rice cereal, oatmeal, baby yogurt, you name it, and she's still got the diarea. I called the dr. today and they told me to switch her to soy formula because it has more fiber and should firm up her stools...has anyone ever heard this? They also told me to get Similac Isomil DF, it's a formula for infants over 6 months with diarea...but I can't find it anywhere. So I just got the Enfamil Prosobee. Is there anything else I could try to get her stools to firm up? They said if the issue is still there at her 9 month check up this Friday they'll address it then. It's causing her horrible diaper rash the poor thing, from going to the bathroom so many times a day!

Is she eating banannas yet? These constipate my dd if she eats them too often. Maybe they will help hers to "thicken up". You said you tried the rice cereal... maybe bulk that up a little more too. No juice- the sugar makes them go. So do peaches, pears and green veggies. Maybe avoid those and go more for the squash, or veggie meals (stage 3). Make sure you keep her hydrated, too, with either Pedialyte or plenty of formula.

She's drinking her formula just fine, usually about 30 oz. a day, and peeing like crazy still. She doesn't even like juice so we don't give her that, and I was feeding her bananas at least once a day for a while too to try to help the diarea...I was even upping her cereal to over a 1/4 cup with some veggies like carrots or something or bananas. I just don't understand why she keeps having diarea...and they tested us for c-diff, that's not what we had.

Haymay...My dd had the runs a little while back too. I was told to get her Isomil DF also. I was able to find it at Walgreens. The nurse told me another place, but I can't remember. Try a walgreens though. They are on every corner!!!! Also, the stuff I found was a pre mixed liquid. I don't even know if they have it as a powder.

Thanks jb...I actually did call Walgreens first thing, I thought if anybody would have it they would, and of course they didn't. I don't know where else to look??

hmmm....thats really weird. I will do some research and see what I can come up with. What state do you live in?

i just did a search on it and walgreens pops up all over the place. You can order it online. I would be that the people at your walgreens are just to lazy to look to see if they have the formula or elsethey don't know what they are looking for. One one of the searches it also said babies r us and rite aid has the formula. I am not sure where rite aids are located so I hope one of these helps.
