Do I Have The Smallest Baby Ever

Hi ladies. I haven't posted here in a very long time, but I something is really starting to bother me. My dd is 10 1/2 months old and she only weighs 15 1/2 pounds and she's 27". She still wears 6 month old clothes, too. She's in the 3rd percentile for weight and 25th for height (I think that one is wrong). Her doctor isn't concerned at all, but I can't help to not be concerned. The doctor just keeps saying that she's going to be pet_te. I'm only 5'2" and my husband is 5'7" so it's not like we'll be playing in the NBA soon. She's a great eater and she's formula fed. Is anybody elses children this small or do I have the smallest baby ever?

No, my dd is little, too. She was born big (9 lbs 10 oz) but is just now doubling her birthweight at 13 mos old (18.5 lbs). She is still wearing 9 mos clothes. They are starting to get short, but the 12 mos are too big around her tiny little waist! My dr hasn't been worried ever. She is very advanced in skills and verbal communication, so the Dr said she was jsut going to be small. My dh and I are both 5'8, which is pretty average... but we are not skinny people. We are average in that dept too. She is tall (32 inches) which is 87% for her age, but she is only 10 % for weight. As long as they she is happy and growing... I am not worried. All babies aren't chubby!!! We have proof of that!!

All babies are different and if your doctor thought there was reason for concern - he would tell you. I think it does have a lot to do with genetics. I'm 5'10 and my husband is a lanky 6'3" and has a small head (we call him Beatlejuice, lol) - my 6 mo old son is in the 98th percentile for length, 50th for weight and 40th for head. He already wears a bigger shoe than my 2 year old niece! Just yesterday the doctor said he was following in dad's footsteps!

my neice is spoiled rotten by my sister, she eats healthy food and sometimes she gets special treats if shes good. Anyway at 2 and a bit she was in size 3 diapers and my daughter who was about 14 or 15 months old was bigger and almost as tall as her. She is just tiny like my sister is and is othrewise healthy besides her asthma.

Mason is a little fella. He started out good over 8 lbs. at birth and was in the 50th percentile for height and weight up until 5 months then he started a downward spiral. At 9 months he only weighed 16 lb. 4 oz....had only gained 1 lb. since 5 months old and had fallen to the 5th percentile for weight and unchartable for height (24 or 26 inches...can't remember right off). In our case the dr. was worried, but mainly because he had fallen down the chart so quickly and so much...he said it is not a big worry when they have always been small or pet_te, but that when they fall so drastically it is a concern. He put Mason on a high calorie diet. Other than being so little Mason was/is perfectly healthy. People who know us can't believe he was dx'ed as FTT because he is so healthy looking. I am only 5'2 myself so although I was totally worried at first I don't sweat about it too much now. I mean, I do think about it and there are times that I think maybe I need to do something different, but I know he's eating good and he's healthy otherwise and that's all that matters.
