Morgan, my older dd is 8. Last week a little girl in her room was out of school because she had the "flu". That's what they called it. She missed Mon-Thur and came back on Friday. Morgan got up Saturday with a fever, chills, achy etc etc. She ran a fever till Tues. Tuesday night she broke out in hives! Then again on Wed night, and on Thursday night. I called the dr's office and they said, it's just a reaction to the viral infection she has, no need to bring her in. They already knew over the phone it was viral! She missed Mon-Wed of school, went back on Thurs and Fri, called me on Fri morning and was sick at her tummy. I went to get her, she was pitiful! She threw up, had a fever, was lethargic, pain when she was breathing, just pitiful. I called her pedi again, they told me it's just something going around, not to worry, no need to bring her in. Finally last night I called again and the nurse paged the dr. I FINALLY got to talk to her dr on the phone and he said take her to the ER because of her pain while she was breathing. So at midnight last night, dh and I loaded her and my 7 month old up and headed to the ER. That was the first time I've ever had to take her to the emergency room, so you know I'm freaking!!! So guess what??? She has pneumonia AND a kidney infection! All because that kid came back to school for that Friday, and the dr's office automatically assumes that if a kid is sick it's viral! That makes me sooo mad! They gave her two antibiotics, and the dosage was so strong that the pharmacist wouldn't fill it until he spoke with the er dr to verify it was correct!!!! So now I have to watch her, if she starts vomiting or has any shortness of breath I have to take her back and he said she would be admitted! Why won't people keep their sick kids at home???? And why won't the dr listen to us??? I'm not a dumb dumb! I know when my baby is really sick!! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!! Anyway, just a vent to other mommies. I figure you guys would know how I feel!

I hear you. My 2 yr old dd has pneumonia & a horrendous ear infection. This has been going on since last Fri the 2. She just finished her antibiotics today but still isn't doing so well. Both her ears have been draining since yesterday which makes for a big, goopy mess in her hair. You're not supposed to get water in their ears so I've been trying to get a wet washclothe and just wiping gently around her ears to no luck. She had a fever for a week ranging from 38.5-39.6. I hope your dd gets better real quick. It's heartbreaking when they are so sick and you can't do anything for them.

And since last Thurs I've had approx 24 hrs sleep. Sorry to vent in your vent, but it makes me feel a bit better.
