Eating Meat

Hello all! I have it in my head, and my dr agreed, we babies shouldn't have meat until after a year old. Really, we did not discuss why. Does anyone know why? I am only asking because he is 100% on table food (he's 10 1/2 months) and is starting to realize he has different food than us. I always set him aside some w/o meat but if he wants more I worry about if I picked it all out or not. THANKS!

That doesn't make sense, since they put meat in baby food that they eat early on. My dd has been eating meat since about 4 months. So far so good. I would call and ask for clarification.

Its funny you say that b/c right after postin gthis I thought...I'll give the advice nurse a quick call. It is a texture-chewing thing. I guess combo of most kids not having many teeth and chewing too well and some parents not cutting food small enough has caused a good bit of choking.

There is no need to wait -- in fact some cultures *start* with meat as baby's first food. They have an increased need for iron at this age so if they aren't getting meat they should be at least getting iron-fortified cereal. We started DD on solids at 6 months with cereal, she was eating meat around 7 1/2 months. She's 12 months now and is an avid meat eater.
