First Diaper Rash

My 4.5 month old DD just got her first cold last night. This morning she woke up with a stuffy nose and a diaper rash. She has redness here and there on her bum but now she has a full blown rash with small barely raised red bumps. IT doesn't seem to bother her but it LOOKS painful. I have read that if its yeast you can use an OTC anti-fungal on their bum. Does anyone know how to tell if its a yeasty type rash.. other than it being red?

I think you may need to take her in to the doc to make sure whether or not its a yeast infection. You wouldn't want to treat something if you're not 100% sure of what it is. It could just be that the diaper rash got worse over-night. I have also heard of teething causing diaper rash (buts its debatable). Poor girl, luckily my ds has escaped the diaper rash monster this entire time. I have put cream on his bum at every changing since birth. Maybe let you dd go around naked as much as possible today to let it air out.

I've found some photos online in the past of various diapers rashes (I'd give you a link but I lost my bookmarks this week in a power outage) ... you could try googling to see what you can find. I agree with DDT - let baby air out, and use a barrier cream. Call the doctor if it doesn't go away. I can't remember -- are you b-feeding? Maybe it's just a reaction to something you ate? (By they way, DDT - it's funny that you said not to treat something if you're not 100% sure what it is - I wish my doctor's office felt the same way! They tried to put my baby on oral antibiotics for a diaper rash a couple months back, thinking that he had a bacterial infection, but not bothering to do any actual tests! I think in the end it was a yeast rash/allergic reaction to the diaper cream we were using, and to the disposable diapers we were using!)

Thanks ladies. I showed it to my friends mom who has had alot of babies and she said its definately not yeast. I have been washing her bum with plain water and b__w drying it dry with the dryer on cool and putting barrier cream on. Its much better already. I am b___stfeeding.. but I don't think I ate anything different last night.
