Gerber 2nd Foods

Since we're getting ready to start on 2nd foods, I noticed that many of them are "dinners", you know that nasty veggies and beef combo in a jar. And I was wondering at what age did ya'll starting giving your lo's meat (jar or otherwise)? Gretchen's 6months and I'm a bit leary, but my hubby says go for it, if it's offered for that age group "why not".

hi piratesmermaid, i was reading over a weaning leaflet i was given earlier on as i'm about to start my lo on baby rice. It says from 6months a good finger food is cubes of chicken/turkey, mini meatb___s etc. so i would presume that you'd be fine to give your dd meat. Only do it if you feel comfy with it though. Maybe ask your peds advice first if you're not totally sure. Hope i've been some help.

You have, vonzo, thanks! I didn't know about the chkn/turkey finger foods, that's interesting. Honestly I'll be glad when we get back to our own house and I'll have the space and the tools to make my own baby food. :)

I was wondering the same thing. DS is 5.5 months and it a big boy so I am wondering if stage 2 will satisfy him more plus there are not very many varities for stage 1. Piratesmermaid I am a__suming you are talking about the meats that are in the jar that are more pudding like substance right? I am not sure but I think the finger foods come later but I woudl just ask your pedi and see what the say. I am going to see my pedi tomorrow and I was going to ask if I should start him on stage 2.

well I gave my ds the stage 2 and 3 foods and he ate them just fine but I mostly stuck to Gerber cause beechnut just did not seem as good he is now a year old and is eating table foods mostly I still keep a couple of gerber graduates around just in case we have something like tacos that he can't eat yet...it sure looks yucky but they seem to eat it up LOL!! I did not get the plain meats I got the dinners...

I can't stand my current ped. She's an idiot. So I'm going to go by my daughter as far as what she wants to eat. She really liked the mac and cheese we had for lunch today (it didn't taste half bad actually) so some of the meats may be okay. I picked up the turkey and sweet potatoe because she loves sweet potato and the apple and ham looked interesting.....

My son loves the little dinners. His favorite is the macaroni and beef. He also loves the Chicken noodle soup. Oh he also loves the vegetable bacon and the vegetable ham dinners. I think I started the meats at about 7 months but I did not start any solids until 5 months. My son did not like any of the turkey meals at all and he did not like one of the meat dinners that had tomatos in them.

the ham and apples is a little runny I must warn you....my ds did not care for the runny ones as much and some of them are a bit ( :

Thanks for the heads-up, rl! Emmie, I gotta say the veggie and bacon seemed a bit strange to me, but I might have gretchen try it after all.

My dd loved the meat meals, but we didn't give her those until about 7 mos. She liked the turkey dinner and chicken dinner, but didn't care for the ham or beef. She also liked the chicken and noodles.
