Going Away Worried It Will Mess Up Schedule

We are leaving for Punta Cana in 1 week and the inlaws are watching my ds. I am now a little nervous that they will mess up his schedule. I have got him more figured out now and have explained how important it is to keep him on schedule for naps and bedtime ( to prevent him getting overtired, which is very easy for him to do). I know they will take very good care of him but i know they arn't going to follow his daily schedule and he will miss some naps and probally go to bed late, etc. I am afraid now that i will pay for this when we return and have to start over from scratch! They keep asking us weekly to go out for dinner, etc which is nice but they call us at 6or7 pm as yes before we had him we had late dinners but now his bedtime is 7:30 - 8 and we have to have dinner at a normal time! They seem to get upset when we don't join them, and i feel they will still go out for dinner and such at late times when we are gone. what do you think, have any of you experienced a similar situation? what was the outcome?

Tell them if they mess up his schedule then they have to fix it. LOL Just kidding...we have somewhat experienced this with my inlaws but for the most part they surprised me by trying their best to stick to his schedule. Even if they don't, it may be a pain in the b___t for you, but I guess you just have to look at the compromise of you get to enjoy a relaxing vacation and know that your ds is going to be in good hands. Sorry that's really my only suggestion...hope you get to enjoy yourself!

was it hard to get your child back on their routine?

Nah, not really. How old is your lo?? My ds is 6 months old and just yesterday he had an overnight at my mil's house because it was hubby and I's anniversary. Of course she rocked him to sleep and let him take all of his naps in her arms ( we put him down awake which he is totally used to and does fine with ) so as soon as he came home this morning, first nap of the day he just refuses to go to sleep on his own. But I went in and soothed him and cried for a few minutes and then went to sleep. Second nap time it was completely back to normal. Of course, this was only for a night. Don't really have any experience to tell you what it would be like after a week.

You know, he will get a messed up schedule, but he will bounce back. Like Aurorabunny said, you get a great relaxing vacation (well needed I am sure) and ds is in great hands. Don't worry about something that you really will have no control over (unless if you don't go!!!). Have a great trip!

I agree with jb. His schedule will probably get messed up b/c no one does things exactly like mommy and daddy do. I wouldnt worry too much. You will get him back on track very quickly when you return. Have fun on your vacation!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been out to eat a few times past Ethans bedtime and it doesn't bother him one bit. I just give him a bath and put him in a comfy outfit or his PJ's and he will fall asleep in the infant carrier ( he's 5 1/2 months). So going out to dinner is okay. But I guess your talking about going out to dinner while someone watches him?? I just recently went out of town for 3 weeks and I knew when I got to my in-laws house that no matter how hard I tried to keep Ethan on his regular schedule things would change....and boy did they change! He went from going to sleep at 6pm to 8pm. He went from having a very irregular nap schedule to taking 2, two hour naps a day!!!! I love it, im glad things changed.

i forgot to add: the inlaws came over last night and i tell you i will haev my hands full when we get back as, he missed 2 naps, i tried to get him to sleep but they are always holding him and wait till he is way overtired! He went from having a lately 4-6 hr sleep session at night to waking every 1.5 hrs last night, which i know it was b/c he didn't get his proper afternoon nap and got extremely over tired! oH boy ....this vacation better be the best one ever and make it really worth it !!!!!
