Brody just had a really loose, watery diaper....really foul smelling as well. His appet_te is great however, he is just as hungry as ever and he seems to be acting fine. His 2 bottom teeth are half up, half still in the gums. Is this the beginnings of a virus or could it be just teeth????

I know alot of stomach flu is going around my area, jordan had it for about 3 days, he was pretty happy but pooping like crazy, and he didn't really want much to eat, and he had a low grade fever but was acting normal not sick, maybe you could call your doc and see if there alot of flu going around or take him to the doctors if he keeps pooping or is eating less, but its also a possibility hes teething, which hopfully it is

I say that foul smelling stools is not the sign of teething, but in fact a virus. Trev just got over having a mild case of the flu...he never had a fever, threw up twice and had horrible diarrhea for two days straight....and I'm talking about 8-10 poopy ones per day and the smelled HORRID! Then, I was lucky enough to have my 8 year old get the same freaking thing. Throwing up and then the diarrhea....I hate the cold/flu season! :o) If Brody doesn't feel like eating or happens to vomit, start giving him pedialite to help him from not getting dehydrated. You should give him the pedialiate if he has a lot of runny diapers as well for the same reason. I called my doc's office and they said that there wasn't anything that they could do for him, but to keep an eye on him and make sure that he wasn't getting dehydrated.

Well he just got done with his baby food, instead of the regular foods I pretty much just gave him a whole jar of bananas and he ate it like they were going out of style, same with his bottle. He is giggly and happy, so maybe just teeth?? Any other signs to watch for that it is stomach virus?? Other than a little cold, he is have never been sick before so I am getting all worried!

Ya know, when Trevor got it, he didn't really show any signs until he actually threw up. He got up in the morning, smily and happy, I changed him, he had a bottle, we played, I picked him up and he literally covered me with his vomit. It was sad. Came out his little nose and all. Maybe in Brody's case, he ate something that made his poop watery and smelly (that's your best case!!! and what I'm hoping for). Also, he still played and had some fun for the two days he was sick, but just not with as much enthusiam and he slept a bit more than normal.

Yeah when I said that it was foul smelling, I should have added that his poop has been smelling really terrible for the past couple weeks and he hasn't been sick or anything. I think it's just one of the new foods causing the smell, and this one didn't really smell any worse. Thanks guys, I am hoping for best case scenario. That was his only poop today so far so maybe it is just loose stool. I am still TOTALLY confused as to a teething-diaharea connection. Some doctors say yes, some say no....what are you guys experience with that??

With both of my kids, they never had diarrhea and teething...Trevor has 4 teeth now and the only time he's had diarrhea is when he's been sick. So, I don't know if there is truly a correloation based on my expierence, but I bet there's mom's out there who have teethers who get diarrhea. I suppose it all depends on the baby!! :o)

To all who responded, thank you! Thought I'd update....Brody never had anymore poopy diapers after that one and is doing just wonderful today. I guess it was just teeth or a new food or something, my mommy worry just got working into overdrive. Thanks ladies!

steph I am that mom, both my kids get extrememly bad watery diapers with teething matter of fact my DS has it now. He also runs a low grade fever at times with it. The doc said that is completely normal. So I wouldnt worry aurorabunny as long as he is still eating and drinking and his fever is below 101 then I was told that everything is fine. You have to watch for one thing though each time my ds cuts his teeth he got an ear infection up until 18 months , he is almost 2 now and is cutting his last 4 teeth and I am watching for that pesky ear infection once again now my dd had the same diaper problems and slight fever and never got sick with ear infections or anything else and she is almost 4 now so I would just watch him carefully and make sure to avoid juices when he is having loose stools and give him pedialyte and bananas and cereal help too. Keep him hydrated and watch his temp good luck!
