How Do You Know Which Nipple To Use Fast Or Slow

My ds is 2 weeks old and we are having really horrible gas problems. Mylicon doesn't seem to help so dh and I are going to try some different bottles. I was wondering if we should also try a fast flow nipple, but dh thinks the baby may choke. Is there a certain age for a fast flow? How do you know if thw slow is no longer cutting it? Thanks ladies!

There is now certain age for fast or slow flow nipples, just depends if your baby is not getting enough milk or getting too much when they feed. My 5month old uses stage 2 nipples and has since about 4months of age. The reason I knew it was time to go from stage 1 to stage 2 is because with the stage 1 he was sucking on the nipple really hard, which caused him to take in my air. The milk was not flowing fast enough for him, he wanted more and fast! So we tried stage 2 and his sucking wasnst as hard and he took in less air. I would say if you think that the flow isnt fast enough try stage 2, and if you find that he cant keep up with the flow then go back to stage one.

Try the Vent-Aire bottles by Playtex. They did great for my LO. They are angled, so there is no chance of air getting into the nipple with the formula. Also, it is vented on bottom so the air gets pushed out. We also used Dr Browns for her, due to gas, but the Vent-Aire ones worked jsut as well.
