How Frequently Does Your 4 Month Old Eat

Ok I am a little concerned about my little boy. He will be 4 months old on July 3rd and just this last week, he started not eating too well. He went from having 6 oz of formula every 3 hours to eating 3-4 oz every 3 hours. So this weekend, I tried to see how long he would go between feedings and what happend was he would eat 6 oz every 4.5 hours and then one time he waited 6 hours. He sleeps through the night and has since 5 weeks old so he has been going all night without food but this just started happening last week and into the weekend. Has anyone else noticed that their 4 month old has spaced out their feedings a little more? I am curious to know if maybe something is wrong or he is just getting older and this is supposed to happen.

well.. my son's 5 and a 1/2 months.. but he, too, has cut down on his feedings and he's sleeping less. Before it seemed like he was eating AND sleeping ALL the time. I think it's just something that happens as they get older. they're probably able to hold their food better. also, i feed my ds solid food for breakfast and dinner... so that might be why my son's eating less. i'm going to ask his pediatrician about it in 9 days at his 6 month check up.

I found the opposite problem with Mason. He started feeding mroe frequently so we started solids which helped. I'm sure it's nothing serious, but you might wanna call the ped just to let them know. :) Sometimes they have their days where they just don't wanna eat.

Thanks for posting. I am going to watch over the next few days and see how he is. I mean he has been in a great mood not really crying that much or even that fussy. So I will just see how he does and he goes to the doctor on July 14 for his 4 month check up so I may just wait and mention it to the doctor then since he is eating fine and really it is resulting in just 1 bottle less per day. But I am just going to continue to watch him. Does anyone think that anything could be wrong with him or just maturing and eating less often?

If you aren't seeing anything wrong he might just be having a slow period. It's worth a mention to the ped IF it goes on for a long time, but I don;t think anything too serious. :)

My son will be 4 months on July 1 and he eats 5 1/2 oz every 2.5-3 hours. He also sleeps through the night about 8-9 hours. Oh, and he has cereal 3 tablespoons about an hour before bed. My son has not spaced out between feedings but I wouldn't worry. If it continues I would call the doctor just to be on the safe side. My son weighs about 18 lbs though so that might have something to do with it.
