How Long Should Baby Nap

My DD is 7+ weeks and until about 5 weeks she slept non-stop except to eat and a bit of play time (maybe a total of 2-3 hours in a 24 hour period) Then in her 5th and 6th week she seemed to be much more alert and nap much much much less (only one 2-3 hour nap a day) Now in her 7th week she is back to sleeping non-stop except to eat and fuss a little when she's gassy. She plays and smiles at me for about 20 minutes and then back to sleep again... is this normal???

Krissy I am going through the same thing with my dd who just turned 8 weeks! I was actually going to ask about it so i am very glad you did! She still only gets up once a night to eat and right back to sleep but she has been sleeping alot through the day! I hope it is normal...

It's totally normal. They are most likely going through a growth spurt. The first year and a half or so, they go through this every so often.Eat, sleep, eat, sleep. Sleep is very important for healthy growth and so I just let my son sleep when he was going through one of these. I've also read that's why teenagers sleep so much because their bodies/brains are going through lots of changes too and they need the extra sleep. I know I could sleep 12 hours straight at 15 years old!

My daughter is 8 weeks and she's like that too. It's perfectly fine, I just let her figure out her own sleeping schedule (during the day anyways)

Very normal and to be expected. Alot is happening in their little bodies and growth takes a lot out of them, so those long naps are much needed. When they sleep is when they gain weight, especially after a feeding.
