How Long To Let Cry

Ladies- I am at my wits end, so as a last resort I am going to attempt the CIO method even though it breaks my heart. Now, I know that this method does not necessarily work for every baby, so my question is how long (in minutes/hours) do you think I should let him cry before thinking maybe it won't work? BTW, my ds is 6 months old and has been waking up to 7 times per night for about the last 8-9 weeks. I know he is teething, so I give him tylenol at night, but it has not helped.

I don't know about the CIO method because I haven't tried that but since your little one is teething I might suggest Orajel, it really really helps my ds. I give him tylenol first then about 15 minutes later I put orajel on his gums. Good luck, I know it's not easy with a fussy, teething, baby.

IMO teething does not cause night waking, but that is a controversial topic. If he is waking up 7 times a night then he and you are both losing out on a lot of sleep. He really does need to learn how to sleep, so don't think you are a bad mommy for choosing CIO. We used it and it worked. For night time sleep, we used the extinction method, meaning we did not go in at all until 8 hours had lapsed. Of course she did not cry that long. The first night, dd cried about 45 minutes. It got better every night. Once in a while she will still wake up before 8-9 hours has elapsed since going to bed and give a short "Wahh." But then she's back to sleep within a minute and wakes up to feed at her normal 4 AM. Then she's back to sleep till about 7AM. So... I would say let baby cry for unlimited time... of course I don't think baby should end up crying too long. We only had to deal with 45 minutes so it wasn't that bad. Also, I don't think CIO works that well for naps in my experience.
