I'd like to know too! My son is 13 weeks today, and just this past week he's been waking up much earlier in the mornings. Last night it was 4 am for a diaper and a full bottle, and he woke up just before 7 am for the same again. We're thinking of starting cereal, and I'll probably call the pediatrician to ask which meal to start with, or add more formula feedings, etc.!

Ask your doc but at 4 months I started my dd on rice cereal. I made it really soupy with b___stmilk though. She loved it! I did this for about 2-3 wks and then I started giving her a veggie. I buy gerber and they have the little plastic tubs and one of those lasts three days. You're supposed to introduce a new food for three days to watch for allergies. So each night at supper time she gets some rice cereal and 1/3 container of a veggie. So far we've had sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, pears, bananas and now we're on carrots. She also gets banana flavored rice cereal with this and I give her some fruit for dessert. One that she's had already of course. She hates peas! I've been trying them for two nights now and she spits them all out. Make sure you're giving them their regular bottle before you try the solids though. This early you're not supposed to supplement a bottle with solids. It's more just for fun at first and something extra but I make sure she's got all the milk she wants and then we try solids. I'm only doing this once a day and then I will see what my doc say at her 6 month appt. She told me to not even try foods till 6 months but I told her I was sneaking her rice cereal and she said that was fine. I never told her about everything else but I didn't really start the other foods till almost 5 months. Try the rice cereal for a couple weeks and see how they like it!

HI LADIES THANK YOU FOR YOUR FEEDBACK!!! I HAVE BEEN GIVING MY DS RICE CEREAL IN HIS BOTTLE SINCE WAS 2 MONTHS OLD DUE TO ACID REFLUX. WE JUST STARTED LAST WEEK WITH CHANGING HIS FORMULA TO SOY, AND ALSO CHANGING FROM GERBER RICE TO BEECH NUT RICE. HE WAS SPITTING UP HIS ENFAMIL LIPIL W/IRON WAY TO MUCH. SO THE DR SAID TO GIVE HIM ENFAMIL LIPIL PROSOBEE SO FAR IT IS EXCELLENT!!! AND NO SPIT UP. ALSO THE DR SAID TO START HIM ON SOLIDS. TO DO ONE ABOUT 3 DAYS THEN SWITCH TO ANOTHER- JUST TO BE SURE THAT HES NOT ALLERGIC AND ITS EASIER TO PINPOINT WHICH FOOD IT WAS. HE ALSO SUGGESTED TO NOT INTRODUCE THE SWEETER FOODS SUCH AS CARROTS, SWEET POTATOES YET. THIS WAY HE DOESNT DEVELOP A SWEET TOOTH. SO WHAT IM ASKING IS WHAT IS A NORMAL FOOD SCHEDULE FOR YOUR LITTLE ONE. I STARTED MY DS ONCE A DAY WITH THE SOLIDS I DIDNT WANT TO BIND HIM UP TO QUICK WITH ALL THE FOOD. SO HE NOW WILL EAT 2X A DAY SOLIDS WHICH IS AN ENTIRE GERBER PLASTIC CONTAINER. AND HE DOES ABOUT 10-12 6 OZ. BOTTLES IN A 24 HR PERIOD. THANX :-)

10-12 6oz bottles in 24 hours? Do you really mean 60-72 oz?

They don't really need solids before 6 months so there isn't really a set rule. I started rice cereal at 4 months, usually once or twice per day. After a few weeks we tried sweet potatoes and then bananas. At 6 months I started a "schedule" and he eats solids 3 x's per day and then 30-40 oz. of milk/formula. I suggest buying a book. Two I suggest/have is Super Baby Food (more geared toward homemade baby food) and then the Everything Baby Food Book. You can usually get a good price on a used book on either Ebay or Amazon (or the library is free).
