We started my son on rice cereal around 3 1/2 months and then on fruits and veggies at 4 months. We started with veggies and then after about 2 weeks started with fruit.

We just started giving my ds rice cereal, he's about 3 & 1/2 months. My pedi said it's ok at this age.

Most say start rice cereal at 4 months, then every two weeks thereafter you can try barley and oat cereals and then fruits and veggies. I did this and my LO ended up starting veggies at about 5 1/2 months.

I gave my son rice cereal when he was 6 weeks old and have been giving it to him off and on since then (he's now 10wks). I took the advice of the past 2 generations of mothers because it seemed he wasn't feeling full from only the milk. I'll probably start him on fruit or veggies around 4mos. I would think rice cereal is ok for young babies, but not too young. His ped said it's unnecesary to feed him cereal now because he gets all the nutrients he needs from the formula. But, you're the mother, you do what you feel is right.

The American Pediatric a__sociation says to wait until they are 6 months most doctors will give yout the ok at 4 months earlier if your child has special needs. If you have a family history of food allergies later is better. Also depending on how old your baby is they could be going through a growth spurt and not really needing solids. Babies have a tongue/ gag reflux when that is no longer present then it is ok to start solids also when baby can hold his head up by himself.

4 to 6 months is the normal like the others said. There are rare occasions where baby may be ready earlier or later. It depends on the baby. Mason was started at 3 1/2 months (I'll bet anything he was ready sooner but I held him back) because he was in the 97th percentile on height and weight. He is not fat...just huge in every direction, lol. He was drinking 32 ounces of formula nad it just was not enough to sustain him. Plus he had met all the criteria on the Gerber Web site...they have some great info on when to start solids, how to start them and why cereal is important....http://www.gerber.com/phase/feeding?phase=9#topic1

P.S. Take out the dashes in that. (note: Mason got VERY constipated on rice cereal so as soon as I could (after 4 days of testing it out for allergies) I switched him to oatmeal and then barley.

The pedi told me to wait until my baby was 6 mths old to feed him solids, because his digestive system will be more mature by that time. But I started to give my son rice cereal when he was 5/12 mths.

you can try cereal at 4 months old, and baby food around 5 to 6 months. according to how well she does with cereal.
