Hi ladies, I was wondering how some of you second time moms have introduced the thought of having a new baby in the house to the first born. My son will be almost two when this baby is born and he has started to pat and poke my belly. I know he knows something is different, but I need some ideas for this transition from "baby of the house" to big brother, any ideas??

Books, books and more books. We bought a book t_tled.. When you were in Mommy. It is great, explaining the nine month process. We also got a book about ..."i'm the big brother" . My son loved both and is very proud that he is the big brother. We also bought him a doll in a little carrier with two bottles so he could practice being a big helper. He has had no problems and loves his little brother.

There's also an Elmo video about a new baby, if he likes the Elmo stuff. I didn't see it at any stores, but we borrowed it from the library. I also bought my daughter a present and told her it was from the new baby. Don't expect the transition to be absolutely smooth, no matter what you do. It might take a few weeks for him to realize that he's not being replaced by the new baby.
