I Got A Big Problem Getting LO To Sleep

I created a monster- My 11 month old daughter only goes to sleep for the night when I am holding her. I either have to hold her while I am watching TV and she passes out next to me or I have to take her into bed with me, she falls asleep and then I put her in her crib. I have tried putting her in her crib at bedtime and she cries and cries (a real pathetic heart wrenching cry). I can't let her CIO and I am wondering if anyone else has any ideas how to take care of this. THANKS.

um, yea, CIO. Seriously though, that's very tough. You can try revamping your bed time routine -- dinner, bath, read a book, dim the lights and read a second book, but ultimately, you're faced with teh fact that you daughter will have to fall asleep on her own, and she won't give up w/out a fight. Crying might be part of that. I will say, that while there are always exceptions to the rule (children that have a tough time falling asleep or wake up frequently), MOST kids do learn to fall asleep solo. Wish you all the best luck.

My sister had this problem with her dd at about the same age. They were living with me at the time so I remember it well. This takes time, but it works... Rather than CIO try placing a chair next to her crib. Sit there each night until she calms down as she gets calmer move the chair a little further from the crib (you can sit on the floor too if you like) eventually you'll be out the door. Each night start off a little further from the crib. It may take a week or so, but it should work. Good luck!
