i feel like this is such a juvenile question...but do any of you know how possible it is to get pregnant using the withdrawl method? i just realized that im late on my period and ive been having cramps...which i thought was my period starting..but it still hasn't...ive been having wicked heartburn...and now this morning i feel like im really nauseous. but we've been pulling out and so i didn't think i could get pregnant....i still dont think that i am, but even if im not, i kind of want to know how much we're playing with fire here ya know? i dont really want to go back on the pill, but i also know that we're not quite ready yet for another baby!!! the only other option would be charting which i would have to learn how to do it..

I think you have a 30% chance of concieving without the withdrawl but I am not sure of the chance with withdrawl. The risk with withdral is the prec_m may contain sperm. A man doesn't feel it when they pre c_m. It is meant to be a lubricant but can contain sperm, especially if he ejaculated recently before s_x. Also after he ejaculated and if he goes back in, there can still be live sperm. My dh and I used the w/d method for a whole year before ttc my dd, but I wouldn't reccomend it unless you wouldn't mind a baby. We used that method because I knew I wanted another and if it happened I would have been fine with it. I concieved the first month we quit doing it, but again it is not a good method to use. If you want to do the natural family planning method then you need to get very familar with your ovulation signs because it is not 100% either..

Hey Margie! Sorry I haven't been keeping up with everyone's news very well lately, but the last I knew, you still hadn't gotten your period following the birth. I a__sume that happened, but now it's not, so hmmm.... To answer your question about the withdrawal method, yes it's definitely possible to get pregnant that way because very often men leak a "pre-ejaculate" before the big O, and that can contain enough sperm to cause a pregnancy. Of course, the rhythm method isn't very reliable either, but in combination, you'll probably do just fine. I was charting BBT's, OPK's, you name it, when I was trying to get pregnant and it's a lot of work. But there are some really good internet sites that help you along, and since you want to concieve again some day, it might be worth the effort to start now. Then you'll have a really good history of your cycle for when it's time to stop preventing things, and start making things happen. Good luck!

ya...i know that none of this stuff is 100%...thats how i got here! haha..my parents thought they were done with having kids 10 years before they had me and were using natural planning and then got a surprise and here i am! i would be ok if i had another baby but just want to see how effective it really is. we always used it before i got pregnant but just like you, i got pregnant the month that we stopped, total luck! i cant wait to be pregnant again but i have to...financial reasons and want to give my little Angel attention a little longer before i have to devote time to a newborn.

hi buffi! yes, i started my period finally after pregnancy and then was exact 28 day cycle following that first period. but this month not quite so...im not really late mind you, but maybe like 3 or 4 days. i guess that if i got pregnant again using the wd method then i guess that we must be super fertile people! lol. we only had unprotected s_x once for our daughter to get here. and previous to that i was pregnant but unfortunately ended in mc, but it only took us 2 months to get pregnant then.

I got this at americalpregnacy dot org: Typical use of withdrawal, which is how most people use it, has a failure rate of approximately 18-19%. You should take a pregnancy test if you are experiencing any pregnancy symptoms. So I guess its kind of the same odds as birth control if you occasionally forget one or something?

Yeah, I read somewhere that most women will become pregnant in a year with the withdrawl.

We were using the withdrawal method, and I am over two weeks late for my period... I wonder why (glances around suspiciously). Ha ha but it can definitely happen! It has between a 20-30 % failure rate I have heard. I always seem to be a part of minorities it seems! You could try a test if it doesn't show within the next few days. I was only late one time after having Phoenix. That was my second period. This time being being late has proven to have different reasons. Let us know what happens. It is a challenge I will say but it's pretty exciting too! Hopefully you won't get the super duper nausea from hell if you end up being pregnant! I am praying for you. Keep it cool :)

Oh and it only took us two months using the withdrawal method. The women in my family have a history of being very fertile. I am not complaining however. My dad used to say he could hang his clothes next to my mother's and she'd end up pregnant. They conceived me on a camping trip she said.

Must be why I love the great outdoors eh? It's when the parents stop planning they usually end up having another, so very true that is.

YEP, you sure can! I am living proof. lol.

I've always used the "withdrawl method" I can't stand BC, makes me feel yucky. I have three kids...and all 3 were concieved on first time tries of NOT withdrawing, guess I'm pretty fertile. So this method has worked for me so far. Everyone is different though. Take a test maybe to be sure and then start using a condom on your ovulation days only. Hubby and I are thinking about doing that becasue we had a scare last month too.
