Inconsolable And Sweaty Baby

Ok, my baby all of a sudden started crying this afternoon and was basically inconsolable until about midnight. I tried everything I could think of to calm him. I noticed he was really sweaty, especially his head, his hair was damp, and he wet my clothes with his sweat. He doesn't have a fever, though. I stripped him down to his onesie but it didn't seem to help, and his skin is very warm. I finally got him to sleep, but I am worried. Anyone dealt with this before? He has been sweaty like this in the past, but he never has a fever. We go to the pediatrician on Thursday, but of course, as a first time mom, I'm wondering if that is soon enough. I'm stumped.
