Is 7 Months Too Young To Drop A Nap

My dd is 7 months. She used to nap like clockwork in the morning for 2 hours, and then in the afternoon for 2 hours. For the past month or so, she shortened her naps to an hour... an hour and a half max. Now, she seems very skeptical about napping at all. If I get her to sleep in the morning for an hour, she will usually refuse her afternoon nap, and vice versa. Im wondering.. maybe if I put her down at 1pm, and let her sleep until she wakes up? Does this sound ok?

I've been kinda wondering about the nap thing as well. Gretchen's almost 8months old and she usually naps in the late morning for between 30min to 1hour30min and in the afternoon for 1-2hours. But lately it's been hard to keep this schedule. A couple days ago she refused to go down for her morning nap and fell asleep in her highchair just as I started her lunch! And she slept then for about 2 1/2 hours, but didn't take an afternoon nap, but was soooooooooo cranky before dinner because she was tired. Then yesterday she took a 30min nap much sooner than usual, and another short nap much later than usual. I wish I had an answer for you! I think our dds are in that in-between stage.

I was just reading about this in "Happy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child." In that book, it states that most babies still need 2 naps up until and often beyond their first birthday. My ds is 11 months and still needs 2 naps. When we try to skip one, it is a bad day!

frankie is the same.he refused a nap until 3 oclock today.hes gone down for a nap now at 5 oclock but its an awkard time as regards to dinner and bedtime, what are the latest you will all let your babys nap as regards to bedtime routine and sleeping too late in the afternoon.

Im thinking that this weekend, Im going to eliminate the morning nap and see how it goes. Bedtime at my house is 8pm.. so Eva really needs to be up by 430 in order to sleep at that time.. Im thinking if I put her down to sleep at 1pm, she'll probably be up by 330, which is perfect! Whether or not she decides to participate is another matter completely....

My dd also used to nap for 2 hrs each, but has reduced to 1 hr or lesser now. I think it started around 7month mark as well! But she naps 3 times a day. She doesn't get into bed at night until 9, so maybe thats why there is the extra nap. But yes, she gets real cranky if she misses a nap. and sometimes she just doesn't want to go down for a nap either!
