LO Fights Sleep EVERY Night Suggestions

I'm almost at my wits end. This is almost the second straight week my dd (4.5 months) has had us up all night. She is a notorious sleep fighter...she fusses, screams, pinches, arches her back, until she wears herself down and finally succ_mbs to sleep. We've tried letting her stay up until she wants---all it does is make her grumpier and overtired. We've tried earlier bedtimes, later bedtimes, a routine, rocking, bouncing, swinging, you name it. She just fusses and fights. I haven't had a good night's sleep in months and it seems to have gotten worse lately---now she's taken to waking up at 2 or 3 am and staying awake for an hour+. She is being treated for colic and reflux and it is being managed with meds, so I wonder if that has something to do with. Help! I need suggestions. I'm running on empty here.

Wish I could help but mine isn't sleeping well at night either. She's only a month old and no diagnosed conditions like reflux yet, but she has been spitting up more lately so I wonder if we're headed for that. She likes to be awake from about midnight to 3 AM every night, going back and forth with eating to burping, to crying, to wanting to be held, to eating again, etc. Hope you get some good advice here...I'll be reading the replies too!

What are you giving her for colic? Usually colic is over with by 3 months.

buffi---what you describe does sound like reflux without the colic. My dd did that too in the early days, just add to that incessant screaming. She was diagonsed at 2 months with reflux and colic and given meds. Mrs. Ireland---I thought colic was done by 3 month, too. Nope, just in about 80% of cases. My doctor said she could have it until 6-9 months or even up to 2 yrs!!! Goodness, gracious!!! At her 4 month well check last week, the dr upped her prevacid and gave me dicyclomine hydrochloride drops for the colic (this is supposed to ease stomach cramps believed to be linked to colic). Needless to say, the meds don't seem to be helping much.

Oh, wait my doctor meant the reflux could last up to two years. But yes, for a lucky few, colic can last up to 6 or 9 months. I guess we are in that lucky category!

Do you swaddle??? use white noise??? Hylands makes a tablet called colic calm... for babies with colic- alot of moms swear by it..

Have you tried a routine? I discovered that giving my little one a bath around the same time everynight helps relax him and then he knows it's bedtime. I would also give him infants mylicon gas drops for his gas that would wake him during the night.
