Mucus In Poo

Has anyone noticed this when your baby has a bowel movement? Never a lot in there but there is some. Is this normal or could it point to some problem? No blood that I see. Also, do you all ever notice stomach noises in your little one? At times when giving her a bottle, I can hear her tummy, don't know if its just gas (hardly ever passes any that I'm aware of) or just normal digestive sounds. Can feel it too, like bubbles popping. She is on medicine for acid reflux. thanks!

Hi Shana how oldis your little one? My daughter is now 5 months but when she was younger I could definitely hear sounds from her tummy. Tummy rumbling and also the bubble sound. I asked the ped and he said it just the digestive system and body noises. Nothing to worry about. Things sound different coming from a baby;s body because they are so little. My dd also had mucous in her poop but she had a milk allergy so that's what it was from. She was on Nutramigien for a few months and it cleared up. This is not the only reason for mucous though. SHe was on meds for acid reflux as well however they did not seem to affect her poop any.

Dont think she is allergic to anything, skin does not break out or anything. how did you find out your daughter had an allergy? our daughter is 5 months old, was born 5 weeks early.

Mucus in the stool can come from an allergy as YC stated and can sometimes be the only symptom. Has she started any new foods in the past few days? Mucus can also be a sign of intestinal infection...which is nothing serious most of the time. I would call the pedi and tell them about the gurgles and mucus and see what they recommend.

My ds sometimes has the mucus in his bm, and he also gets the gurgling noise. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

oh, I forgot to mention if your baby has any congestion, cold, allergies, etc. the drainage can come through the bowels.

My daughter was diagnosed with the milk allergy at about 1 week old. She used to arch her back and scream...you could tell she had a bad tummy ache. The dr. started listing all these things and one of them was mucous in the stool. She did not have any other signs of an allergy (rash, red mouth, red bottom). There are other reasons for this though so U would check with the ped. just to be on the safe side.
